PROBABLY NOT A NEW ONE. Wellington June 12. There is no reason to believe that the minefield reported to have been located northward of Cape Maria van Dieman is a new one. The existence of this fiold lias been suspected for some time, and precautions have been taken to prevent ships entering the area of danger. The authorities believe that the mines found off Cape Maria van Dieman and off Cape Farewell were laid by the same agency and about the same time. The mine-sweeping trawlers mentionpd in the official announcement made by the Naval Adviser has been at work for months past. It has been considered necessary for them to cover seven very large areas of coastal water in their search for enemy mines.
