J SHORTAGE OP CATTLE. Received June 14, 10.15 p.m. Sydney, June 14. In view of the shortage of cattle, Cabinet is considering the Minister of Lands' scheme for feeding more calves. The idea is to secure the co-operation of the butter and cheese factories, utilising wastfe products, such as whey, butter milk, and skim milk for feeding calves* Already strong support is promised. PROHIBITION IN WAR TIME. Received June 14, 10.20 p.m. Brisbane, June 14. The Anglican Synod passed a resolution in favor of prohibition during war time. Archbishop Donaldson opposed the motion, but admitted alcohol was closely allied with sexual vice, but they could not institute an earthly paradise by eradicating one particular sin. War time prohibition was a revolutionary as opposed to an evolutionary measure, and he was not prepared to favor a measure that meant injustice. DARING THEFT. Melbourne, June 14. There was another daring theft this afternoon. Two men entered Kilpatrick's jewellery shop in Collins Street and asked to see diamond rings. They seized a tray valued at £3OOO and bolted. They fastened a chain across the door way to prevent pursuit, and escaped.
