MOTOR LORRY COLLIDES WITH TRAIN.

A MAN KILLED. Feilding, June 12. A shocking fatal accident occurred today at 3 o'clock, at the Kimbolton Road railway crossing, 'by which George- Hirst lost his life. Hirst and Ross (both returned soldiers) owned a big motor lorry, and were on board at the crossing when tbe goods train was shunting on one of the double lines. The motorists waited till the train passed and then drove up to the crossing. The New Ply. mouth express was coming in at the time and struck the fore part of the lorry and the hooded-ia seat. Ross was driving and jumped out just in time, but was struck and seriously injured. The hooded part with Hirst was caught by the engine. The wreckage was carried about three chains on the cow-catcher. Hirst was fearfully injured and died within a few ipinutes. This railway crossing has been the subject of correspondence between the local authorities for years. It always was considered a dangerous crossing. This is the.second man killed there. Feilding is suffering from a distressing list of motor accidents. Including Ross there are now four residents under medical care as the result of motor accidents within the past week.
