DISTRICT NEWS.

CARDIFF NOTES. (From Our Own Correspondent). For several weeks past, the Cardiff Road has presented a scene of unusual activity. A number of teams have been busily engaged in carting material for the new factory and the crusher has, of late, added its persistent rattle to the general babel. The builders have made good progress in the erection of the factory, and it is now possible to guage the imposing appearance that the finished building will present. All possible speed is being made in its erection so that it will be ready at the commencement of the next milking season, The demolition of old building and the removal of portions of it entailed more labor than was anticipated. The concrete and stone removed from the old manufacturing rooms is to bo crushed and utilised for metalling approaches and most of the machinery and equipment of the old factory will be installed in the new building. Several old-established dairy herds are billed for sale early in July. Mr. A. David's choice herd will be the first clearing sale and Mr. Fi. A. Mander, who is going into camp shortly afterwards, is disposing of his herd of good dairy cows a few days later. Last Sunday night. Mrs Mou&t, an aged relative of Mr. AV. Creenwcll, passed away after a short, but severe illness, nnd was interred in tho Stratford Cemetery on the following Tuesday. Much sympathy is extended to her relatives in their bereavement. A considerable quantity of boulders are lying in heaps along the Opunalce Road between here and Stratford, but it is rumored that some time must elapse before the County Council can spare sufficient funds to employ the crusher on the job of breaking them into metal to repair the worn parts of this road. Tf such is the case, the road may develop some nastv holes with the increased heavy traffic 'caused by (he rebuilding of the factory. Mr. A. J. Morton, Senior Inspector of Schools, paid a visit to the local school last week and reported that satisfactory progress was being made with the school work. At present this school is closed for the winter holidays, but will re-open on Tuesday, the 18th inst.
