WEST END BOWLING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING, He annual meeting of the West End Bowling Club was held last night, Mr, J. D. Sole presiding over a good attendance of members. The committee's report showed that the year had ibeen the most successful in the history of the club. Commencing the season wtih cash in hand of £3O 18s Sd, the season closed with a credit balance of £sl 19s 2d, with no current outstanding liabilities. This satisfactory result was due to the fact that corrugated iron on the fence had been sold, realising £52 15s, also to tue handsome way in which members had given cash donations and to tie very large amount of voluntary laJbor. A suggestion to enlarge the winter green was enthusiastically taken up, and as the result of negotiations the Western Park Board met the drib in a very friendly and liberal spirit in connection with the acquisition of additional land. The result was that they now had a new green of eight rinks, put down at .an approximate cost of £95. Members had generously donated cash to the extent of £27 5s 4d, whilst voluntary lalbor would represent at least an equal amount. Special praise was due to the secretary for his work and also for his handsome donation. Assets exceed liabilities by £4ll, despite the fact that £IOO depreciation had been written off. During the year two years' ground rent had been paid, also debentures to the extent of £l4, while £24 15s had been contributed to the Wounded Soldiers Fund. Prom a playing point of view the club had enjoyed a pleasant and successful season, quite upholding its reputation in interclub matches, in addition to which rinks acted as runners-up in both the Wanganui and Taranaki tournaments. The club's championships were won by J. D. Sole (senior) and L. H. Honeyfield (junior). With the largely increased accommodation it was hoped thAt the membership would increase and the enhanced revenue would enable the club to carry out further improvements. The committee had decided to refer the question of winter play to the annual meeting.
in moving the adoption of the report the chairman referred to the very satisfactory position of the club, and took the opportunity of extending his thanks to the committee for the help they had at all times given him. He spoke in sympathetic terms of the serious loss several members of the club had sustained during the year, notably the Newell families, both of whom had lost boys at the front, whilst Mr. Honeyfield had also suffered the loss of his father and mother. He expressed the hope that during the coming season the old system of banner competitions would be reinstated. The motion was seconded by Mr. F. J. Hill and carried.
