Private H. Dick, Pete#, Is officially reported to "be a prisoner of war in Germany. Mr. S. G. Smith has been nominated by the Central School Committee for a seat on the Education Board. The Hltham postmaster (Mr. J E. 'Broadfoo) has received notice of his transfer to Feilding. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., is in Auckland, for the purpose of meeting has son, Lieutenant Harold Wilkinson, who is returning from tEe front on leave. At a special meeting of the Hawera District High School Committee, Mr. E. Dixon declined re-nomination for the Taranaki Education Board, and Mr. R. S. Sage was nominated in liis stead. Lieutenant A. Smith, who since his return from the front, has been residing at Ratapiko, was a visitor to New Plymouth yesterday. His health is decidedly improving. A Reuter telegram reports the death of Earl Rosse, aged 45. He served in the South African War and was wounded early in tue present war. A London cablegram reports that Colonel Milne Thomson is reported missing. He was formerly surgeon to the New Zealand Mounted Police and also to the Napier Hospital. Another very old resident of Patea passed away on Monday in the person of Mr. R. Willis, sen., who died at the hospital after a brief illness, The deceased, who was 73 years of age, is survived by Mrs. Willis and a. family of five sons and one daughter, one son (Rifle 1 Inan P. Willis) being at present on active service. On Thursday evening at Feilding members of the Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce, representing the townspeople, made a presentation to Mr. Ered Pirani on the eve of his departure as one of the press delegates. The presentation was made by Mr. Ongley (Mayor), and felicitations were offered.—Press Association. A military wedding of considerable interest was celebrated at Msanaia on Tuesday, when the only daughter of Major and Mrs. T. C. Sutherland was married to Bomlbardier N. K. Mlacleod (Main Body N.Z.EjL),. the best man being Corporal H Maoleod, N-Z/F.A., brother oi the bridegroom. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. Tye, 8.A., at St. Cufchberi's, Manaia. Mr. J. Blair Mason, who oocurpied the position of resident engineer of the; Otago Harbor Board for many years, and who latterly has acted as the boards engineer, has given six months' notice, as from July 1, of his intention to terminate his engagement with the board. It is understood (the Daily Times says) thajt Mr. Maaon has received an engagement with the New Plymouth Harbor Board. From the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Gourlay, Gloucester Street, Linwood, Chrisitchurch, the funeral of the late Mr. Wm. E. Gourlay, one of the victims of the Mount Egmont fatality, took place on Friday afternoon (says the Sun). The" pall-(bearers were old boys of the Wesit Christctarcih District High School. The Lands Department was represented byJMr. W. H. Slarmer (Commissioner of Crown Lands for Canterbury), and there were also present representatives of the Press staffs and Companionship, the Lyttelton Times Companionship ind staffs. Wreaiths were forwarded from the West Ohristchurch District High School Old Boys' Association, Now Plymouth fellow officers of the deceased, his fellow-'boarders, Press Companionship, Lyitclton Times Companionship, and many private friends.
