In the latest hospital report, W. H. Corkill (Hawera) is among the seriously ill, and J. Armstrong (Kakaramea) is among the not severe cases. . A Christchurch telegram states that the Rev. A T. Thompsop has resigned from St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in order to take up the position of New Zealand agent of the British and Foreign Bible Society. The members or the No. 1 Wellington Military Service Board leave for Wanganui by the mail train to-day,, where they commence a sitting at two o'clock this afternoon. The members of the War Pensions Board concluded their sitting in New Plymouth yesterday, and they leave by the mail train this morning for Palmerston North and, after a two-days' sitting tliere, they proceed to Wellington. The Conservative Association of St. George's, Hanover Square, London, in regretting the withdrawal of his Candida, ture at the next election, warmly thanked Sir George Reid for his services.—' Cable. The Revs. Father Harnett and Dr. Kelly are visiting Qpunake. Since he left Ofunake Father Harnett has seen some of the stirring scenes in the Old Land. He was also a passenger on board a boat that was torpedoed. Mr. Francis M Byrne, who for the past eight years has been proprietor of the Wahnate Witness, has disposed of his interest in the paper to Mr C. J. Powell, who for some years has been in charge of the printing department of the Batea Press. Mr Powell takes over the business at the end of the present month.—Star. News has been received of the death of Mr. C. M. Gray, of Christchurch. The late Mr Gray was born in Geelong in 1853, and came to New Zealand in ISC2 with his parents. As a youth under 16, he fought in the Maori War. FTe was employed iij. the soft goods trade at Wanganui and Christchurch, and in ISS4 commenced business on his own account. He had always taken a very keen and active interest in public af foil's, and for many years was a member of the Christchurch City Council andcliairman of the Hospital Board. He had also been thrice Mayor of the city, and for some years represented Christchurch North 'in the House of Representatives, for which seat he defeated the late Mr T E. Taylor He had also just completed a two-years' term as "han-man of the Chrstehurch Tramways Board. Mr. C. M. Gray, of New Ply. mouth, is a sou of the deceased,
