1 THE EMPIRE. ; WOEIiD"S MOST FASHIONABLE ACTRESS. Enter the New Zealand picture theatres, Irene Castle, or, as fiflie is better known, Mrs. Vernon Castle, the most piquant, ultrafashionaMe actress of two continents. Her first film play is '"Sylvia of the Secret Service," and it is a masterpiece. The story opens in the offices of an Amsterdam diamond-cutter, who entrusts an enormous jewel in the custody of the hero. Hie latter takes elaborate precautions to keep the big stone safe, but the desperate gang cleverly defearts him. A vain and obstinate Scotland Yard official arrests him as the culprit, and "t is only after much ingenuity and many strange adventures that Sylvia rescues the hero from his predicament In the course of the play I Sylvia passes for her own purposes as a Wester® millionairess, and this gives her the opportunity of displaying some most daring and amazing costumes. The photography is good, and the whole drama is quite a unique production.. The supporting cast is exceptionally strong. Other films on the programme, the screening of which will he limited to tonight and to-morrow only, include "History of the War" (No. 8), "Jerry's Romance" (a Cut comedy), and the Bathe Weekly Budget. EVERYBODY'S. "THE NEGLECTED WEPE." What promises to be easily the most interesting and enjoyable photoplay novel yet presented locally was commenced at Everybody's on Saturday to record houses. This picture, which is in serial form, is entitled "The Neglected Wife," and a fresh and complete, new episode will be presented every Saturday and Monday at the above theatre. Polk who missed Saturday's screening should make a point of seeeing it tonight, when it will be shown for the last lime. It is the master marriage problem play of all time, and the theme is treated with a bold, sure but delicate, touch. Remarkable strength characterises the plot of the new Triangle play, 'The Stainless Barrier," screening in addition to "The Neglected Wife." A ,voung Southerner, petted and spoiled by a loving mother and sister, goes to New York, and there falls into the hands of a promoter of bogus companies. Soon ha is a helpless tool in the hands of this desperate rascal, and a raid is made on the young man's home town with the view of scooping the inhabitants of their lnonrf. Disaster meets the scheme through the integrity and hardheadedness of one man, and in the ensuing turmoil the leading schemer is shot by the victim. He is arrested and faces the court charged with murder. In his utter Bel&hnesa, he drives his sister to admit that he fired the fatal shot to avenge her betrayal, and gets off. The brokenhearted sister realises fully what she has done, but she reckons without her lover, who would go through fire and wa/ter to clear her. He does so, in a scene of tremendous power. The play marks the high-water mark of Triangle's best work, and the cast is wondenfully strong. Irene Hunt, a new Triangle beauty, has telling, emotional power and superb artistry. J. Barney Sherry is perfect in the role of the company "grafter," and handsome Jack Livingston is, of course, a manly hero. The settings wra wonderful.
LEE TOY OHDSTO. To-morrow evening Lee Toy Chung ■will appear at the Good Templar Hall in conjunction with his talented company. Lee Toy Chung opens the programme, and will introduce a number of new and sensational illusions, together with a host of card and coin manipulations that Jceep his audience amused and baffled throughout. Professor D'Almainc, the master hypnotist, will prove a great attraction. Selecting a elass of subjects from the audience and placing them in a hypnotic sleep, he will demonstrate some scientific and medical tests during the evening, and will also produce some very laughable scenes with his class. Miss Brigbtie Carlisle will appear in a budget of new musical numbers. Mr. Harry Hill brings quite a repertoire of descriptive and character songs. Miss Wynne Briee will make her first appearance here to-morrow evening, also Mr. Percy Carr, a droll comedian. Little Qeorgie is hound to make many friends here with his humorous and quaint atories. The King's Dramatic and Comedy Sketch Team will produce a one-act original farcical comedy, entitled "A f Tramp's Dilemma," in which Mr. R. Oswald will appear as the Tramp, Intending patrons are advised to book their seats at Collier's. Popular prices will be charged here, after which the company are making a special tour round the mountain, playing at Okato on Thursday evening, Opunake Friday, Rahotu Saturday, with Manaia and Kaponga to follow.

The Sydney James ,\eiv Revue Company, including the Royal Strollers, will commence a season of two nights at the Empire Theatre on Wednesday niglit, and will present in its entirety the London Hippodrome success, "Come i Inside," as played in the metropolis for over 12 months. As producer of this revue Sydney James lias re-arranged many of the 71 umbeis and adapted them to the taste of Australasian audiences and it is said that- the result is eminently satisfactory, and judging by the successes- achieved' in Wellington, Christctaireh and Dunedin, amusement seekers will find much 1 enjoyment in the fare tc tie presented.
