REPUBLICANISM UNPOPULAR. PRESENT SYSTEM SATISFACTORY. Received June 7, 750 p.m. London, June 0. The Hon. Henry Burton, Minister of Railways has arrived to represent South Africa at the Imperial Conference. In an interview, he said that republicanism was really unpopular in South Africa, even amongst the Dutch-speaking South Africans, who were not prepared to risk the advantages and liberties of the British system of government for the problematical beneißits of republicanism, regarding which they were sceptical. The outlook was entirely promising. The country was enpoying extraordinary prosperity. The great majority of the people supported the Government policy in assisting the war to the utmost. A large and influential section of the Dutch was similarly disposed. A substantial proportion of the recruits were of Dutch extraction. —Reuter.
