POSITION OF "OTHER DEPENDENTS." (From Cur Own Correspondent.) Wellington, June 4, It was announced /cssntly that Cabinet had decided that in the case of relatives of u. soldier, other than wife child, and widowed mother, allowances would be paid under certain conditions. If the relative had been, in fact, dependent on the soldier for a period oi 12 months prior to enlistment, an allowance would be paid equivalent to the amount paid by the soldier, with a maximum limitation of 10s Od a keek. A correspondent, who litis made an application under this heading, aisks — (!) if any such payments have yet been made; (2) how the claim should be •nade; and (3) on what statement as to former dependence on the soldier will payment be based. It is stated officially that payments «f this kind have already been made The system took effect as from May J. Applications have to be made to the Pay Office, Wellington. Special forms ni'c being printed and will be available within a few day.-. They will be supplied on applicatiotn to the Pay Office or the branch pay office, and will ba raßde available through the patriotic societies and other organisations. The proof of dependence required':* .a worn statement made before a .justioi' of the peace or a solicitor. The dependence must hare existed for 12 months before the enlistment of the soldier, lie claim having been established, the Pay Office will make an allowance equivalent to the amount formerly provided by the soldier, up to the maximum of 10s Od a week.
