FOUR AND A HALF MILLIONS.

RAISED m NEW ZEALAND FOR PATRIOTIC PURPOSES. So far the detailed figures of tlie amount raised for patriotic purposes in New Zealand up till the end of the financial year are not available. The amount raised up till December 31 last —i.e., for three and a half years exactly—was £4,543,244, Of that amount £3,420,046 was raised by patriotic societies and £1,117,198 by other organisations, and by goods received by them for realisation. The total, however, does not take into consideration gifts of money, food, and clothing that may have been sent direct to organisations in England or France for the relief of the distressed in those countries. In some cases considerable shipments of meat have been made to relief organisations at Home, and hundreds of eases of sound clothing have also been transported to the other side of the world for those in need of such help.
