THE EGMONT FATALITY.

FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. AMBfURY. The attendance at the funeral of the lato Mr. Arthur Amibury, jun.. one of the victims of the fatality at Mount Egniont on Monday afternoon, was a great tribute to the high esteem in which he was held by his friends and in business circles, as well as an evidence of the desire on the part of the general pulblic to honor the memory of a man who gallantly sacrificed his life in an attempt to save that of another man. The cortege, which left the deceased's late residence, Devon Street west, a little after two o'clock yesterday afternoon, was headed by members of the Unity Tent, Independent Order of Seehabites, of which deceased was a member Following the carriages, in winch were relatives of the lat e Mr. Ambury and a number of near friends, were the members of the New Plymouth Male Choir, of which deceased was also a member There were also a large number of citizens in the cortege, amongst them being many prominent business men of ibhe town, At the cemetery there was an even larger gathering, and when the assemblage gathered around" the grave there was one of the largest concourses of people seen for a long time at a funeral at Te Henui The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. A. Campbell Sievewright (Baptist). The burial service of the lodge to which the late Mr Ambury belonged was read by Brother E. Chatterton (secretary) The members of the Male Choir, under Mr. P. W. G. M'Leod, sang "Lead, Kindly Light" The bearers were Messrs T V Mackay, C. 6. Bottrill, T. Robinson, R. C. Sievwrigbt, W Elliott, and E. W. Goodall, the latter three being members of the staff of Messrs Amibury Brothers. A large number of beautiful floral tributes were received and placed upon tho casket. ' The following resolution was carried at St. Mary's Vestry meeting on Wednesday:—"That tMs meeting of St. Mary's Vestry records its appreciation of the noble sacrifice of his life by Arthur Hamilton Amibury, in his endeavor to save William Gourlay on Mount Egmont on June 3, 1918, and extends its sincere sympathy to his widow, children, and parents in their bereavement."
