LADIES' TOURNAMENT. The ladies' tournament held at Hawera on Monday proved very interesting:, final victory going to the Stratford ladies' team. The results of the several games were: Technical College 2 v. Hawera D.H. School 0, Kaponga 0 v. Stratford 0. Hawera 0 ?. Eltham 0. Stratford 1 v. Hawera D.H.S. 0. Technical College 0 v. Kaponga 0. Hawera 1 v. Stratford 1. Eltham 1 v. Hawera D.H..S. 0. Technical College 2 v. Hawera 0. Eltham 1 v. Kaponga 0. Stratford 1 v. Technical College 0. Hawera D.H.S. 1 v. Hawera 1. Stratford 2 v. Eltham 0. Technical College 0 v. Eltbara 0. Kaponga 1 v. Hawera 1. Hawera D.H.S. 1 v. Kaponga 1. Stratford scored 8 poiuts for the shield; Eltham and Technical College, 6. In the men's play, Hawera defeated Stratford by G goala to 1, HAWERA v. ELTHAM. At King Edward Tark, on Monday, nawera defeated Eltham by 7 to 5. From the bully-off Hawera kept up a strong attack, and in Quick time notched four goals, while Eltham's goalkeeper (Clements) made a good showing in defence, but was rather slow in clearing. With determined tries Eltham secured two goals, Hawera's goalkeeper (G. Rodger) proving too much for Eltham. At half time the scores were: Hawera 4, Eltham 2. On resuming, the game was much more evt-n-Iy contested. Goals were soon added to eacli team's side. Hawera forwards showed Tather good combination, the goalkeeper and full back putting up a good defence, but the half lino was rather weak. Eltham, however, proved » full of determination and vigor, and should with i practice become a strong and well-combined ! team. The following scored for Hawera: F. Sim;)- : son 3, E. Gemmell 2, C. Morrisse.v 2. For El- i tham: Dringezu 2, Wilson, Irwin and Pennington one each. Mr. F. Page proved an efficient referee. I HAWERA v. STRATFORD. j Stratford had the advantage of two old Tnra- ' naJri reps. M. Priest ;ind E. Tocker, while Ha- ( wera had greatly strengthened their morning j team (against Eltham). Hawera, in the first spell, played fast and furious, there betog a good deal of barracking by the crowd, estimated at between threa and four hundred. Stratford was slow in getting*to work, aud the spell ended: Hawera 4, -Stratford - nil. The second spell was fast and willing, Stratford several times getting near to scoring, but the defence was too solid,* StTatford only once obtaining a goal, though Hawera was several ! times penalised. The game ended: Hawera 7; Stratford 1. ' For Hawera, Gardiner and F. Sage each scored two goals, Gemmell, Morrissey and A. Guy one each. E. Tocker scored for Stratford. Messrs. Stevenson and Young ably refereed.
