COALMINERS' DISPUTE.

MINERS WANT 20 PER CENT. INCREASE IN WAGES. Wellington, May 30. The simmering dispute in the coalmining industry is taking tlie form at present of negotiations between the miners' representatives and the Government. The miners want a twenty per cent, advance in wages, and it appears that they would like to discuss the matter at a conference with the mine-owners. The employers do not wish to take part in any negotiations. They consider that the advance in wages made last year, in the form of a war bonus, meets fully any just claims that can be advanced by the men. The indications are that the miners are trying at present to bring about the conference through the Government.
