WAR LOANS.

STATEMENT BY MR MYERS. By Telegraph.—'Press Association. Wellington, May 30. A statement regarding the war loan of £9,500,000 put on the market recently, was made by Mr Myers. The Minister stated that the loan was now practically fully subscribed, but a certain proportion 3iad .been' reserved to enable the compulsory provisions of the Finance. Act, 1918, to be put into operation. It was necessary, he said, to follow this course, otherwise the financial shirker would not be reached. It was not intended to put these provisions into operation in the first instance as against any person who had contributed to the war loans, but only as J against those who had not subscribed at all.. . . Loans for public works, land settlement, etc., raised in New Zealand since the outbreak of war £9,000,000. Total of all loans raised £05,135,400. The loan authorised by the Finar > Act, 1918, £20,000,000 brought t! total amount authorised to £85.13a,4!)0. As indicating the extent to which tinsmall subscriber had patriotically "done his bit" towards swelling the immensf total of home produced capital, Mr Myers mentioned that to the end of April, 1918, the value of post office certificates. sold amounted to £3,705.960.
