Bishop Sadlier, chairman of the Trust Board, announced that the Shard had. offered the Government £IOOO a year for two years to set apart two plant pathologists, with special qualifications, to investigate orchard diseases in the Nelson district. He ahso announced that Cawthron minor scholarships would be inaugurated'this year, the scholarship to he, open to the secondary school pupils of the Dominion. The, value would be £BO a year, and, with the prospects of higher scholarships to be offered later, would be the most valuable research scholarships in the country.
