'Die Farmers' Conference resolved to protest against the Government's stagnant attitude regarding important public works, such as roads, railways, etc., and that the Government should raise a special public works loan; that the Government be asked to establish an experimental farm on the North Auckland gum lands; that the Government be asked to raise the price of wheat to at least 7s (kl per bushel for the coming season, as under the present conditions it cannot be grown profitably for less; that the Government be urged to hasten the settlement of native lands. The conference concluded.
Tho Farmers' Conference to-day considered a remit £ha.t the conference approve of tho scheme by which farmers could own their own shins, export ami dispose of their own produce, the necessary capital to be raised by a levy of, s.iy. one penny per pound on wool, butter, and cheese, halfpenny per pound on meat, and a proportionate amount on hides and skins. An amondment was moved that the conference approve of the scheme by which farmers and mercantile. firms on the Dominion could own their own ships and eventually dispose, of their ow n produce.
