FRIENDLY SOCIETY'S SICK PAY.
RETURNED SOLDIER'S CLAIM. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. Magistrate Bartholomew gave judgment in the case of a returned -soldier v. the Ivanhoe Lodge of Druids. The point at issue was whether an invalid soldier, prior to discharge from the forces, is mii titled to receive sick pay from the friendly society of which lie is a financial member, on the strength of a medical certificate that he was unable to follow his occupation. The Magistrate held that the sole question was whether a memlbcr was able to follow any occupation. Plaintiff's duties and obligations were set out in the Expeditionary Forces Act, aiul his occupation, therefore, was to serve ns a mwriber of the forces until bis discharge. The lodge's prescribed form of medical certificate provided that a member musi be unable to follow any occupation. ■Judgment was given for defendant.
