THE COAL INDUSTRY.
'A TRIANGULAR DISCUSSION, (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, May 27. It is generally understood that a triangular discussion is proceeding at the present time in the coal industry, the parties ibedng the miners, the owners, and the Government. The miners want more pay and certain other concessions. The mine-owners consider t'hat they are paying more than the men earn already, and the Government wants increased production and industrial peace. The initiative In the discussion has been taken by the turners, who appear at present to be dealing more with the Government than v.'ith their employers. But whatever is happening is happening in camera, and very little information is available. It is quite certain that any serious trouble at tlio mines in the near future would result in the Government taking over control-
