POINTERS GO OUT. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wailii, Mar 28/ The members of the local branch of th u Amalgamated Sooioty of Engineers, having been unalble to come to terms with the mining companies in connection with the dispute regarding wages' and hours' clauses, as sot out in the recent award, came out on strike tit noon to-day. At present only about fifty men are involved, but unless a settlement can be leached at an early date the -position will became serious and far-reaching A conference with the heads of the mining companies was held yesterday afternoon, after a stop-work meeting, and in the evening the me n notified the companies that unless the demands were acceded they would cease work to-day.
