FIRES.
■ A WEI/LLNGTON OHimCH ' "DESTROYED By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A fire was discovered in St. Mary of the Angels' Church, Bouleott Street, a picturesque old wooden structure, this evening, and soon grained such a hold that the total destruction of the building appeared for some time almost inevitable. The western portion of the church, where the steeple was situated, is gutted, but the eastern end is only damaged by smoke &nc\ water. W'hen the alarm was given, Fathers Mahoney and Hall rushed into the building, saved the sacramental service, and stripped the altar, but the vestments in the sacristry were destroyed. The organ at the eastern end of the church was saved. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The church was insured for £I6OO in the United.
