WAR TROPHIES.
TARANAKI REGIMENT CAPTURES. His Worship the Mayor of New Plymouth (Mr. C. H. Burgess) has received the following letter from Major-Genera! Sir A. W. Robin, 0.C., N.Z. Military Forces:— I have- much pleasure in informing you that the Hon. Minister of Defenee has decided to allot the following war trophies to your town:— Machine-guns 3 Covers, barrel, easing : 1 Stands of sorts (bipod) ...., 1 Mortars, trench, 75 nun. .. 1 The trophies in question were cap* turcd by the 11th Taranaki Regiment, whose headquarters is at New Plymouth. The Hon. Minister requests that same be placed in such positions as to ensure that they will remain a permanent memorial to those who captured them. Please inform the Director of Equipment and Ordnance Stores, Buckie street, Wellington, when you are ready to take delivery of the trophies, and to whom they should be addressed. At last night's meeting of the Borough Council, a .motion of thanks was passed to the Minister for the gift of the trophies. It was also decided to have them sent to New Plymouth at once, and to place them, in the meantime, in the Museum.
