SCENE IN A COUNCIL.
COUNCILLOR STRIKES DBPUTT&. MAYOR. By Telegraph— Press Association. Napier, Last Night. ■During an interval between a special meeting of the Napier Borough Council, to appoint a representative on the Tramways Appeal Board, and a meeting of the Finance Committee, Or. McCarthy, deputy-mayor, accused Cr. Mulvanah of telling lies. Cr. Mulvanah hit Cr McCarthy in the jaw. Cr. McCarthy then fell or was thrown back on to a chair, and Cr. Mulvanah seised him and said: "Will I knock him out?" Other councillors intervened, and the committee meeting was adjourned by the mayor.
