ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Ertham, May 27. BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held on Friday evening, the Mayor (Mr. T. B. Crump) presiding. Others present were: Crs. Parrott, Tayler, Whiteford, Ballantine, Carman, Jtidd, Stanners, and Beesley. The Finance Committee recommended that the Ladies' Sewing Guild be granted permission to hold a picture benefit in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. That the charge for street lighting be increased 10s per lamp , commencing April 1, 1918. That two extra lamps be placed in Bridge Street; also, that tho street lamps be kept alight up to 11 p.m. on the nights pictures are showing. —Adopted. The. borough overseer (C. Burie) reported on the general work carried out during the month; also, that minor repairs had been effected at the cemetery, and suggesting that a seat and other improvements be carried out at the cemetery—Report adopted, and seat to bo provided.
The poundkeeperis report showed that 53 head of cattle had been impounded, 52 being released; revenue £5 2s 2d, and expenses 26s 6d.
The Hockey Clulb's application for the use of Taumata Park was granted at a fee of £2 2s. This was considered a rather high fee, and it was proposed that 10s fid be charged. It was pointed out that the Domain Board was is need of funds, and the Hockey ChA could well afford to pay this amount. The amendment was lost, and the fee fixed at £2 2s.
