The name of Corporal E. A. Johnsoft (Patea) appears in the latest hospital' report as still seriously ill, Mrs. H. 0.. Skelton, of Smart Road, has received advice that her son, Cap. N. P. Skelton, of the 18th Reinforcements, who was admitted to hospital in Prance between May 7 and 12, had been transferred to hospital in England on May 15. The Mayor has received a telegram from the Hon. G. W. Russell, stating that he will arrive in New Plymouth on Thursday evening, and will remain until Saturday morning. The Minister adds that he will be pleased to discuss any matters brought before him. A pioneer of Hawera has (reports the Star) passed away in the person of Mr D. Whiting For a long time he was yardman to Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co., and as a general handy workman he was one of the best, always doing his duty faithfully and conscientiously. Some years ago he met with an accident in the pursuit of his avocation, and had the misfortune to lose an arm. He leaves a widow and grown-up family
