JIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce lias received tlie following cablegram, dated London, May IS, from the. High Commissioner for New Zealand: Moat.—Market and prices are without change. Butter.—Stocks increasing, but distribution limited to Tations. Cheeßft—lb in small supply. English Cheddar, no supplies available. Government haa revised maximum price, now 14Ds 4d. Hemp.—Manila: Present supplies are sufficient to meet requirements. Stocks, May 1, 03,731 bales, against 26,186 bales on May 1 last year. New Zealand: Conditions are unchanged. Wheat and Oats.—Offerings small; no change in prices. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Co.* Ltd., Stratford, report as follows: On May 3, at Matau: We quitted most lines at satisfactory prices. Store cows, poor conditioned, £3 10s to £4 ss; 18month empty heifers, £4 to £5 10s; 20month in-calf heifers, £0 to £8; 2£-year in-calf heifers, £8 and £8 lis; 20-month steers, £5 5s to £0 16s; lambs, lis 6d and 12s; 2-tooth empty ewes, to 245. At Tarata: Cattle were dragging, but we placed several lines after the sale at prices in favor of the purchasers. 2-tooth wethers 2Gs lOd, 28s 8d to 31s Qd for forward sheep; empty forward ewes, 2Cs lOd; wethers, mixed ages, 24s Od; 20month steers, £5 5s to £7 ss; 20-month empty heifers, £4 I7s 6d to £5 ss; store cows, £4 15s to £6 10s for fresh conditioned cows; mixed weaners, 32s Od to 53s 6d; weaner steers, Sss to 55s and up to 88s for a nice line; 2J-year in-calf hei f ers, £7 15s to £lO. Our nest sale ■at these yards will be held on June 7. At Stratford, on May 14, we held our usual fortnightly sale: Store cows, £5 2s Od to £7, and up to £lO 15s for forward cows; bulls, 2-year-old, £5 7s 6d; 'empty heifers, £4 5s to £5 ss; weaners, mixed, 23s to 645; weaner heifers, 45s to sfis; weaner steers, 57s Gd, Gss and 81s (id for a nice line; iri-calf heifers, 20-month, £7 10s to £8 ss; lambs, 12s Od to 17s Gd; forward ewes and wethers, 255. Sundries on account of Mr. James Becdie Jr., who is going into camp: Reid and Gray lime sower, £22 15s; s.f. plough, £lO 10s; disc harrows, £7 15s; tine iiarrows, £2; tripod harrows, £7 10s. At Te Wcra, on May 17, we held our usual monthly sale. We quitted most of the stock at satisfactory values. We quote: Store cows, £3 15s to £8; cows and calves, £7 5s to £8 4s; 2 to 2 J-year steers, £lO 15s; 2-J-year in-calf heifers, £8 15s to £9 2s; 20-month steers, £5 Is to £5 14s; 20-month empty heifers, £4 to £5 18s; mixed weaners, 32s 6d to 575; cull lambs, 7s to 10s; 6-tooth and f.f.m. wethers, 10s. Private Sales: A better demand has set in for lambs, wethera and young cattle, and we have to report satisfactory business: Lambs 12s Gd, 14s 3d, 16s; forward ewes, 235, 25s Gd, 28s; wethers, 22s i)d, 265, 275; 20-month empty heifers, £4 17s Gd to £5 10s; in-calf heifers, £7 to £8 ss; 20-month steers, £5, £5 12s Od; mixed weaners, 52s 6d to 65sj 2s-year steers, £lO to £lO 15s.
