A SUBMARINE SUNK. SPANISH VESSEL TORPEDOED. Paris, May 20. A French trawler sank a German tubmarine, took the commander prisoner, and. liberated the captain and crew of a Spanish sailing ship, '.vho weia on board the submarine. Another submarine torpedoed the Spanish steamer Villa de Solla.—-Reuter. AMERICAN PATROLS. .. RUMORS OP SUPER-SUBMERSIBLES. Washington, May 20. The Navy Department announces that America is increasing her patrol forces in European waters. This is one of the factors of the reduced sinkings by submarines, and the Department feels that the submarine menace is greatly decreased. There is some reason to believe that Germany has 3uper-submersibler. of junusual power and cruising radius, but it is impossible to verify these reports.— Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc.
THE ZEEBRUGGE RAID. .. PHOTOGRAPHS SHOW NO CHANGE. Received May 21, 8.30 p.m. London, May 20. The Admiralty reports that fine weather has enabled constant air reconnaissances to be made over Bruges and Zeebrugge. Bruges Canal photographs show no change. Since April 23 the greater part of the enemy's submarine and torpedo craft based on the Flanders coast have been immobilised at Bruges, hence the Zeebrugge blocking operations.—Aus. and N.Z.
