RAID ON LONDON. THIRTY-SEVEN DEATHS. FOUR MACHINES DOWNED. London, May 20. Thirty-seven are dead as the result of the air raid. _ The Press Bureau states that hostile aircraft crossed the coasts of Kent and Essex at 11 o'clock on Sunday evening, going to London. Four of the aeroplanes were brought down. The raid appears to have been on a large scale. A considerable number of bombs were dropped.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc. and Reuter. THE CASUALTIES. IN LONDON AND PROVINCES. Received May 21, 8.30 p.m. London, May 20. The Press Bureau announces that the casualties in the air raid in the London district were: Killed, .17 men, 14 women, G children; injured, 83 men, 49 women and 23 children. Provincial district: None killed, two men, three women and one child injured. Considerable damage was done to house property.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc and Reuter.

Received May 21, 5.20 p.m. London, May 20. The air raiders arrived over the Kentish coast in two groups, apparently converging on London. Our barrage broke their formations. Two Gothas were downed and wrecked in an open space in Kent.—Reuter Service. RAID ON COLOGNE. GERMANS ADMIT SERIOUS DAMAGE. Received May 21, 8.20 p.m. London, May 20. The Cologne press admits that the British airmen's raid on Saturday heavily damaged railways and buildings. Many bombs were dropped in the heart of the city, and caused intense panic. Twenty-five persons were killed and 47 wounded. —United Service. AMERICAN AIRMAN KILLED. New York, May 20. A report from the American front states that Major Raoul Lufberry, an American air hero, formerly of the Lafayette Pioneer Flying Corps, was shot and killed on Sunday during a running air fight.
