RATAPIKO.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A very successful social and dance in aid of Y.M.C.A. funds was held on the loth inst., when tlie accommodation of the schoolroom was taxed to Its ummjst, there being, in addition to a full Muster of local residents, a number of visitors from Tariki and other centres. At social entertainments, where dances arn interspersed witli vocal items, the contributors of the latter sometimes feel, not without cause, that their'contributions are regarded by a good number to
be a rather too long pause between the last and next dance, but on this occasion none of the performers could have failed to realise their efforts were fully appreciated, as all received hearty applause and encores were frequent. Programme: Mrs Rudkin, song; Mr Price, song: Miss D. McLean and Mr Price, duet; Miss I. McLean and Mr Chong, duet; Miss I. Therkleson, song, and Mr Stephenson, recitation. The floor was in perfect order, and tl)e best of dance music was contributed by Miss Clara Hogan (violin) and Miss E. Rudkin (piano), extras by Mrs Hair and the Misses Sinclair, Vera Wilson and Langman. M.C.'s Misses W. Dempster and M. Carr. The decoration of the school room, the supper and other arrangements of the evening reflect much credit on the committee, which is composed entirely of juvenile members of the fair sex as follows: President, Miss Mary Steiler; hon. sec. Mi'ss Nellie Dempster; committee, Misses V. 'Franklin, D. McLean, 0. Wliey, V. Wilson, H. Carr, M. Carr, D. Hair, V. Clough, H. Dradvitzki, J. Stachurski, M. Stachurski and C. Hogan. The amount raised for the Y.M.C.A. including takings of a previous sooial, total £l4 2 S (id. CARDIFF. (From Our Own Correspondent). At present the suppliers to the local factory are only bringing their milk on every other day, but this will not last J long, as the factory is closing down tfu the 20th of this month. The latter date is somewhat earlier than usual <>wing to the rebuilding operations. The progress in building the new factory will be seriously hampered i£ sufficient labour cannot be obtained, so some of the farmers are willing to offer themselves for employment on the new building. It seems that no effort will be spared in the endeavour to have the new factory ready in tinve for next season's | operations. At present the contractors are engaged in carting shingle and other materials to the building site and have commenced the erection of the walls of the building. The newly-elected school committee are sparing no efforts towards putting the school grounds into - order. Last Wednesday they organised a "working bee" and with the assistance of a few 7 local residents they effected many improvements to the school grounds and; buildings as well as trimming the hedges and erecting a new fence to divido the playgrounds. Arrangements have also been' made to clear the grounds of fern and scrub which has for a long time taken charge of the outlying' portions of the grounds,
