WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Whangamomona County Counci: met on Thursday. Present: Crs. McCutchan (chairman), Piteaitlily, Rentoul Cleland, Nolan and Finnerty. Mr. K. C. Robinson, engineer, submitted the following report of the month's work:
Strathmore Riding.—The metal for repair work is now coming to hand, and where possible it is being put direct into place, in order to save double handling As I was unable to let the obtaining of shellroek for Brewer Road, I have put on an extra man with* the surfaceman to quarry what is necessary, and will make suitable arrangements for the carting. O'Connor's bridge has been completed with the exception of a little work to the deck.
Central Riding.—The Ohura No. 2 bridge is about completed, and the approaches will now be put in. The maintenance metal for the various roads has been railed in and carted during the past fortnight. Tahora Riding.—The maintenance metal for Mangaowata Road has been forwarded and delivered on the road. General.—The rate notices sent out in elude any arrears owing for the past two years, so that every ratepayer is now acquainted with the actual position up to the present date. Subsidies of £3O and £2OO have been applied for, and will be to hand shortly. I have seen tin Government auditor, who is at present in Stratford, and have arranged to take in the books, which arc now balanced up to date, and have them audited tt March 31 last. The report was adopted. The engineer was instructed to com plete the approach to O'Connor's bridge in order to facilitate the carting out of shellroek for maintenance purposes. CORRESPONDENCE. It was resolved that the lease of reserve applied for by W. Smith be granted if the engineer is satisfied that the land is under county control. The secretary of the Stratford Hos pital Board notified that the board would charge a levy of Is per £loo.—Received Regarding Bray's bridge, a motion was carried that the matter of securing access to the bridge be deferral for the engineer to report at next meeting.
The Government auditor wrote re expenditure of loan monies, and a reply is to be forwarded that in view of the cases cited by the auditor the counci! deemed it advisable to proceed with sucli on receipt of the preliminary approval feeling assured that the final approval would be granted. The transfer of a road reserve from K Armstrong to Ellen Mounsey was approved. The engineer was instructed to have concrete pipes on Whangamomona Road put in without delay.
The attention of the district health inspector is to be drawn to the state of the road drain at Te Wera, into which the Railway Department affluent flows. All outstanding accounts owing are tc* be sued for forthwith.
Accounts totalling £441 8s 2d wer> passed for payment.
