BAND RECITAL.
There was a wonderfully good attendance at Pukekura Park yesterday afternoon, despite the threatening nature of tho weather, a heavy shower passing over the town shortly after .2 p.m., which probably prevented a,, number of people from being at» the recital. All the musical items were creditajbly played. "The Arab's Dream" appealing to the tastes of many, Master Desmond Qeorge being given his first "baptism" as a clarinet soloist, and acquitting himself well. The collection amounted from all sources to the respectable total of £l7 Ds, and in connection with this, Mr. M'Leod, bandmaster, writes as follows —"The thought ha.s occurred to us that as our objective yesterday was £3O, and a large number of people were debarred from being present and contributing to the Soldiers' Comforts Fund, that the amount may still be made up, if the opportunity is afforded. I purpose, therefore, keeping the fund open until Wednesday evening of this week, and would be glad iif persons desirous of helping will hand their contributions to myself or Mr. Cattley, or any of the hand officials, after which » full statement will be published." In forwarding a cheque for £1 to Mr. M"Leod, Mr; Wm. Sole said he did so in recognition of the tad turning out in such large numbers and at short notice to meet our wounded bovs on their return. We trust that the band's objective (£3O) will b» reached by Wednesday night. We understand the band will go into recess for a short period, so as to prepare new j music for next summer's recitals-
