THE RECRUITING NEED.
NOT POSSIBLE TO PLACE A LIMIT. Wellington, May 17. The Minister for Defence, -referring today to the 02 men of the Second .Division, Baid that there was no present intention of re-examining these men, but he could not bind the Government as to the ultimate future. The war had to he fought to a finish, and it was impossible to place bounds on, the recruiting needs of New Zealand at the present stage. Your correspondent quoted some official opinion to this effect months ago, when the Minister made the original statement thai, it was nvt intended to re-examine Second Division men who were classified as C2. New Zealand cannot fix a point beyond which it will refuse to go in the prosecution of the war. If the need for the reinforcing of the New Zealand Division continues over next year, the recruiting authorities will be forced to withdraw many concessions in order to secure men. The Minister is guarding against future misunderstanding by mentioning the matter now.
