RED CROSS MART.

HILLSBOROUGH'S SPLENDID EFFORT. \ The effort made by the Hillsborough ladies on behalf of the Red Cross Mart, which was brought to a conclusion on Saturday, when tlie ladies of the district took charge of the Mart, was successful, and resulted in the ,sum of, approximately, £214 being raised. The Hillsbrouogh ladies set about the taUk in an enthusiastic manner, and organised a number of small functions i their ow district as a prelude to Saturday's effort, which was really the climax in a series of appeals towards the one end. The prospects, wflien the Mart opened on Saturday, of a very considerable sum being raised were promising. The Mart was stocked probably more heavily than ever before. The display of poultry (both cooked and uncooked) was undoubtedly the best ever seen. There were also ample supplies of mutton, lamb, pork, sucking pig, as well as delicious home-made goods. Cheese, fruit, jams, jellies, pickles, etc., also figured conspicuously on the Mart shelves. There was a splendid display of vegetables and flowers o n the stalls on the street, and the scene about the Mart all day was a particularly' busy one.
