A FRENCH SUCCESS, GRIVESNES PARK CAPTURED. CONQUERED POSITIONS MAINTAINED. Received May 11, 5.5 p.m. London May 10. A French communique states: After an intense, thought short, artillery preparation, we yesterday at noon captured the park of Grivesnes, an important part of which the Germans had occupied. We brought back a large quantity of material. Despite lively enemy artillerying and reconnaissances attempting to reach our new line, we maintained the conquered positions, which we have organised Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc, and Reuter. FRENCH REPEL RAIDS. APPRECIABLE AMOUNT 01-' GROUND GAINED. Received May 12, 5.5 p.m. London, May 10. A French communique states: In successful local operations we repelled raids on the right of the Ailette, in the region of Massige, north of Rheims and the forest of Ailly. A further communique at five in the evening states: During the night the artillery struggle was very lively throughout the region of Grivesnes, Mailly and Rainevfcl. Minor operations against Bois and De Moreuil and north-west of Orvillers enabled us to gain an appreciable amount of ground. A counter-attack completely failed. Received May 12, 5.5 p.m. London, May 10. Sir Douglas Haig reports that the French advanced their line slightly north-1 eastward of Locra. Hostile artillery was particularly active at Vimy and Robecq sectors, southward of Dickebusch. —Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc and Reuter. BELGIAN WORKS BOMBARDED. WHILE OSTEND ATTACKED. A Belgian communique states that the German artillery bombarded Belgian works and communications in the Nieuport zone during the night, while the British were attacking the coast.—Aus. and N.Z. A French communique (issued at 2.33 a.m.) Btates:—After most violent artillerying, German snook troops gained a footing in Gavre Wood, south-west of Mailbyraineval, but a counter-attack drove them out with heavy losses, the position being completely restored.— Aus.-N.Z. Sir Douglas Haig reports,;—We repulsed a raid in the neighborhood of Neuville-Vitasse. There was great aerial activity on Friday evening.
