STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent ) [All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. 11. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.] Stratford, May 9. The Stratford Card Club lias been revived, olid a challenge issued to U.irdilf to a euchre and cri'Jbage tournament. Now that the long winter evenings have arrived, card games as a pastime should prove popular throughout the district. Footballers and hockey players here are eager to have games against outside clivbs. There are several followers of these TOtnes who will develop into topnotOhers, but it is the experience they require, and, to gain this, games are a necessity. Heavy consignments of sheep and cattle are passing through Stratford just now. The AVbangamomona train had nine double-decked .sheep vans, besides rattle trucks, and the i SO train from south also took several waggons of stock north, so there is plenty of work ahead for the New Plymouth and Waitara works.
The Lowgarth Factory Hall should lie taxed to its utmost to hold tlio crowd anticipated at the concert and dance to be held to-morrow (Friday!) evening. A fine programme of vocal and instrumental items will 'be contributed, whilst the fact that the music for the dance trill by in the capable hands of Mr. C. H Fox is a guarantee that matters in this direction will be Al. As advertised in these'columns, the objects are to build up funds for farewells to soldiers.
