CLASS B RECRUITS.
PROPORTION OF REJECTIONS PROVING HIGH. BALLOTTING OF OTHER. CLASSES LIKELY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, May (i The proportion of medical rejections among Class B balloted men in Wellington is proving very .high. It is too early yet to draw definite conclusions, but the indications are that the tightening of the rules and the increased stringency of the medical examination are going to reduce materially the proportion of fit recruits obtained per 1000 balloted men. The big gazette lists of last month and this month, containing the whole 18,000 men of Class B, provide plenty of material for the boards and the recruiting authorities to work upon for the present, but, if the net yield of Class. B is low the calls upon Class C and later classes will be hastened. The suggestion has been made freely that the Government is going tu call a halt at some point. It used to be said that the Second Division men would never be balloted, and now some people are hinting that the balloting will not proceed beyond Class C. There is no sound foundation for reports of this kind. The Government has not set any limit to the Dominion's military effort. Ministers consider that they must be guided by circumstances and that they cannot know now what the price of victory ia going to be. What is likely is that the rate of reinforcement will he ;reduced again when the time has passed for getting men to the front before the next European winter.
