. SUCCESS OF THE LOAN, j A MAMFESTATION OF PATRIOTISM Received May C, 8.35 p.m. New York, May 15. The best estimates of the Liberty Loan are that it will exceed four billion dollars. It is believed the subscribers have exceeded seventeen million people. Mr. W. G. McAdoo (Secretary to the Treasury) has made a statement that the sweeping success of the loan was a heartening manifestation of tho people's patriotism and inflexible determination to support the gallant army and navy until victory is achieved. —Press Association. GERMAN INTRIGUE IN MEXICO. Washington, May 5. It is officially stated that the Germans in all parts of South and Central America are concentrating in Mexico, their object being to stir up trouble, through German propaganda, if possible, and to organise the Mexicans as a fighting force. PENALTIES l-u: SEDITION. Washington, May 5. The Senate passed a Sedition Bill, providing a punishment of 20 years' imprisonment and a : 0,000 dollar fine for persons guilty of disloyal action or utterances.
