The promoters of the sports and concert in aid of the hall funds at Strathmore deserve congratulations on the great care and attention given to details last Thursday. The day" was fine, hut the air was a trifle wintry. The hospitality extended was quite up to Strathmore's best, and that is saying something. A long programme of athletic and horse events waj decided during the afternoon, the secretary (Mr. Drumgool) and his committee getting the events well off to time. It was rather novel to sec the ladies in open competition with the men, and Mrs. J. Anderson, who has had considerable experience in A. and P. show rings, proved quite capaole of holding her own in several events. Some of the events created much merriment, one of our wellknown burnt cork comedians being in his element in a pony race. Details: Saddling Race: J. "Cowell 1, 0. McAlloon 2, Con Coulton 3. The financial result should give the hall funds a much needed lift. GENERAL. The takings at the Patriotic Mart on Saturday were £5 15s and the tea rooms £lO lis. The president (Mrs. .1. \Y. Boon) also acknowledges receipt of £1 7s fld for the Soldiers' Comforts Fund, collected at Holy Trinity Church on Anzac Dav.
The winter is too close at hand to permit the commencement of tarmacadamising Brordway, but (he work of laying water mains and other necessary details of the scheme will be gone on with in due course.
The long winter evenings are to hand. So those who find time tedious will be pleased to learn that Mr. C. E.
