WAIMARINO BUSH FIRES.
INCORPORATED UKU KJO ASSOCIATION FORMED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Kaetihi, May i. At llio last meeting; of the Fire Relief Committee, all monies, assets, and liabilities wen- transferred to the Waiinarino Fire Relief Association- (Incorporated). A resolution was passed expressing appreciation of (lie valuable services rendered by Mr. K. J. Barry, also of (lis marked ability and courtesy displayed by Uim in carrying out the duties of chairman of the committee. Tho new association was inaugurated on the recommendation of Mr. W. Ferguson, chairman of the National FlTiciency Board, in order that there might be a legally constituted corporate body to deal with the large sums the Government was granting in subsidy and on loan. At the first meeting of the incorporated association Mr. T. A. Harris, solicitor, Kaetihi, was.elected chairman. . Up to date the sum of £9OOO has been received in cash donations from the public. Of that amount £3OOO has been expended.on tents, beds, bedding, etc., and all requiring relief in tho shape of shelter and clothing have had their wants supplied. The machinery for the distribution of the funds was now completed. Careful investigation was being made into all claims, and distribution.of cash grants in all deserving cases would be proceeded with immediately. It is anticipated that between 300 and 350 claims will be dealt with.
