HAWERA SITTINGS The appeal of Eugene Patrick McCarthy, farmer, Hurleyville, was further reviewed. Appellant stated that he was originally classified C2, but was recently boarded CI. His two brothers, now on active service, used to be with him on the farm. At present lie had the assistance of a man. He had experienced difficulty in securing efficient labor. The present man, while a good man, could not act as manager. Decision was reserved sine die. The appeal of Frederick Henry, farmer, Hawera, was further considered. Appellant deposed that there was no material alteration in his circumstances. The board adjourned the appeal until the next sitting to enable the appellant to make arrangements to have the property re-leased. * The appeal of Thomas Cyril Cameron Simson, dairy fanner, Patea, was reviewed. The appeal was adjourned until the next sitting, and the chairman said the board relied upon the appellant, a single man without dependents, to endeavor to secure a man, so as to release him for the front. Harry Holmes, storekeeper, (jlpunake, appealed for extension of leave until the end of June to enable him to wind up his business affairs. Leave until July 3 was granted. The appeal of William Leslie Pinny, dairy farmer, Hawera, was further reviewed, and exemption granted sine die. Joseph Turner, farmer, Kaponga, applied for further extension of leave for his son, Private George Turner, who had been previously granted leave until May The board decided to recommend extension of leave until May 31. The adjourned appeal of Frederick J. Coulter, farmer, Ngaere, was reviewed. The appellant stated that there were still on the farm one brother about 18 years of age and two younger brothers still going to school. His elder sister had since gone to the Wairarapa. Major Cox: You are single?— Yes. Do you tiling it reasonable that you should remain on the farm, with the assistance you already have, while marmen are being taken into camp? Don't you think you could have arranged with your brothers George and Charles to remain on the farm in your place 1 Appellant replied that he never knew until his brothers had signed the sharemilking agreement that they were going away. He did not think his 18-year-old brother, still on the farm, could manage the place. The chairman: The appeal is dismissed. W. J. Laurent, farmer, Hawera, appealed for Frederick Cavendish Starch, farmer, his employee. The board reserved its decision sine die. Charles Lowe, dairy farm assistant. Hawera, was granted leave until June 18] Michael Doylo was granted leave until July 4. Patrick Dinan and Matthew Dinan, contractors, Waverley, who applied for time to enable them to complete a contract, were granted leave until June 18.

Andrew Colin Milne was granted leave until July 10. The appeal of Charles Andrew Grant, sheep farmer, Stratford, was further reviewed, and was further adjourned until the June sitting, when it will be again reviewed.

Charles August Nielson, dairy farmer, had his case reviewed, sine die. Appellant and his wife were the only persons on the farm. The appeal was further adjourned until the next sitting, the chairman stating that the board expected him to try to secure someone in his place. Frederick Mills, railway employee, Stratford, who saw service in Samoa, asked to be placed in the Second Division, he being a married man. He said he would have been married five years ago hai-it not been for the war.

The Chairman: Seeing you have already served in Samoa, the board will give you until July 10. George Dale Parsons, farmer, Awatuna, was granted leave until the June draft.

David Pullman, farmer, Otakeho, whose appeal was reviewed, said there was no change in his circumstances. The board adhered to its former decision, sine die.

Leonard Cecil Jackson, farmer, Otakeho, asked for leave until August or September. The board decided to further adjourn the appeal until tho Juno sittings, when it will be again reviewed. Robert George Shearer, farmer, Okaiaw*. had his appeal reviewed. Leave was granted until July 2. The employer's appeal with respect to Albert Ernest Edward Belcher, farm manager, Cardiff, was reviewed.

The appeal was further adjourned until the next sittings, when it will be again considered.

A. 0. Knspar, farmer, Midhirst, was granted leave until the June draft.

Thomas Keith Cameron, farmer, HaWera, who had his appeal reviewed, said 'ic would go into camp iip&ine. The board granted leave accordingly." The appeal of P. A, Petersen, Inglefrood, and that of the father's appeal With respect to S. £. Turner, Eltham, were withdrawn.

There was no appearance with respect to the employer's appeal for John Gunderson, cheese factory manager, Kai--mata, and it was therefore dismissed. The board gave its reserved decisions in the following .appeals: P. E. Jago, Waitotara, adjourned nntil the next sitting, tho board expecting the appellant to make every effort to get away; T. M. M'Vinnie, Manaia, appeal dismissed and leave of absence grantee? until June draft; C. B. Mills, Tuna, the board has no recommendation to make—Star.
