VATICAN NEUTRALITY. I INTERVIEW WITH CARDINAL -»• , LOGUE. London, M»y 1. The Manchester Guardian interviewed Cardinal Logue, who said that ths Vatican had been neutral throughout. It wis nonsense to say that the Vatican han engineered a German plot to stimulate Irish Catholics and the hierarchy to oppose conscription, gested Cardinal Logue said he had never urged any man to go to fight, but he had never in any way discouraged him. It was a matter for the man himself. Cardinal Lostie opposed physical resistance to conscription, but said Irish national sentiment would make itself sufficiently troublesome in other ways. England now had more soldiers stationed in Ireland than she could get by their aid. The British Government was encouraging the Sinn Fein by bringing in conscription. "POSTPONING CONSCRIPTION. FOR A FEW WEEKS. London, May 1. The Daily News says that the Government has decided not to enforce Irish conscription for a few weeks, pending the reception of the Home Rule Bill. UNITED IRISH LEAGUE. TO RESIST CONSCRIPTION. London. May 1. At a meeting of the National Directory of the United Irish League, Mr. Dillon was elected president, and a resolution adopted claiming for Ireland the same right of self-determination as the self-governing colonies possess, and summoning all members of the league to extend the organisation in order to resist conscription.
