ON THE SEA.
SINKING OF THE ORONSA. London, April 30. The captain of the Oronsa, interviewed said that when on the bridge he felt a bump and realised that the vessel had been torpedoed. He ordered the • boats to be lowered. All were cool. The j Oronsa sank in ten minutes. The submarine was not visible. Several members; of thfe Y.MXJ.A. party said that if they could return to America they would stir up the country against the cowardly Germans. SUBMARINES STEADILY DISPOSED OF. Rome, April 30. The newspaper Idea Nazionale learns from a trustworthy source that the losses of submarines during the past six weeks have been double the rate of January and February. The number in active service is steadily decreasing. ALLIED COUNCIL'S MEASURES. London, April 30. The Inter-Allied Naval Council in Paris considered all eventualities of the immediate future, including a great sea fight. Preparatory measures were taken. The newspaper Gaulois says that the council decided to intensify the antisubmarine measures. ' ANOTHER GERMAN FICTION. j TOTALLY WITHOUT FOUNDATION. j London, April 30. ! Swedish papers print a telegram, emanating from BcHin, stating that an entire fleet of British transports is waiting in the Channel to bring the British army home in case of need. The Admiralty informed Reuter's that this is absolutely without foundation.
