THE GREY SEAT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Greymouth, April 30. Nothing definite is settled yet fis to who will oppose Mr. Holland for the Grey seat. The three opponents previously announced had adopted an attitude of withdrawal to avoid vote splitting. There was a hurried preliminary meeting at Greymouth on Saturday, presided over by the Mayor, at which J.nbor, other than the Federation, was represented, and it was decided to wait on Mr. T. E. C'oates to-dav with the view of his remaining in the contestMr. R. Wilson's position is that he has .placed himself at the disposal of the electors, whilst Mr. Kerr's withdrawal has been announced from Wellington.
Mr. Coates Ims been out of town for some days. The attitude of Messrs Wilson and Kerr has since made the way clear for Mr. Coates, who is expected to return from his farm at Kopara to-day. Meanwhile t'be Labor Party has the lead in organisation work. Mr. Holland will fire the first shot at Greymouth on Thursday next. CHRISTCHURCII DISTURBANCE. Wellington, April 30. Mr. Massey, referring to the Ohristcliurch disturbance, expressed confidence that it would be regretted 'by all riglitthinking people. Communications that had readied him £iade it plain that many Second Division men were ashamed of the actions of some members- To win the war must be the supreiro object of our lives. The compulsory service law did not respect persons, and all must obey. The provision to be made for soldiers' dependents was the most liberal of any conntry in the world. MAGISTRATE COURT CASES. Hamilton, April 30. At the Magistrate's Court, James Loughlin, farmer, Tamahere, was charged that, being a bookmaker, he betted on licensed premises. He was fined £2O. A boy aged 14 was charged with stealing two letters containing cheques from the post office. He was admitted to probation for I*2 months.
