HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETINGS.
INGLE WOOD. There were only twelve householders present at the meeting on Monday night Mr. J. Winiield was voted to the chair He read the report, which showed that a very successful year's work had been carried out by the teachers. He wished to thank the stall' for' their work, and for I,he cordial relations existing between them and the committee. Reference was made to an extra class-room having been put on, and a part of the headmaster's room partitioned oil to act as a common room for the teachers. There had been only one change in the stall', Miss Campbell, last year's probationer, being trans-, ferred to thfe Central, her place not being filled for thfc rest of 1017. At the beginning of 1017 the roll number was 2"!), and at the end, 320, whilst at the beginning of 1918 it was 295, showing an increase of sixteen from January, 1917.
The statement of accounts showed re eeipts as £147 17s 3d and expenditure £OS 5s (id, leaving a balance of £B2 lis 9d. The following committee was then elected: Messrs. J. Winiield (chairman) te-elected, John Sutherland, secretary and treasurer (re-elected)', Noble King G. Burrows, R. Fawcett, D. Allen, H. Manby, L. Ileatley and T. Rolston. Mr. Winfield referred to the matter of the £2550 raised by Cue public towards the erection of an assembly hall at the New Plymouth High School, and moved: "That this committee respectfully -requests that the Government reconsider its decision not to subsidise the amount contributed by the New Plymouth district towards the building of additions at the High School."—Carried unanimously It was decided that the committee meet on the second Tuesday in each month at the school at 7.30 p.m. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing committee for the good work done during its term of office. The headmaster (Mr. O. P. Evans) expressed his thanks for the happy, relations which had existed between the committee and staff, and especially to the chairman for the broad-minded, and tactful way in which he had carried out all his dealings with the school. Mr. Winfield briefly responded.
iVAITARA. The meeting at Waitara wa3 presided ver by Mr. Wakeley. The report of the committee congratulated Mr. Wyllie ant' staff on the excellent results of the las! examinations, and the very satisfactory report of the inspectors as to the progresi of the school. The number on the roP in March, 1917, was 323, and the numbei now was 310. The technical school had een completed, and was now in use lie pupils of standards V and VI re . sumed cookery and wood-carving lessons. The amount of subscriptions received for this work was £213 17s, and the balance (£6 3s) required for the work was taken from the school funds A great improvement to the grounds hat been made by concreting the footpath from McLean Street to the front of the school. The Education Board had promised to subsidise £ for £ for any maney raised for the swimming baths up to £SO. There is no doubt it would be a great advantage to the children to be able to learn to swim in safety. Mr. Wakeley declined to act as chairman, and Mr. Ford was elected and accepted the office. Mr. Wyllie referred to the necessity of enlarging the school buildings. At present many more children were crowded into the rooms than they were built to accommodate. The mattfer of the salaries of probationers was also discussed it being held that they should be placed on the saine basis as other civil servants
Mr. Arms was re-elected as secretary (ind thanks were tendered to him for the valuable work that he had done for education during the years that he had occupied the honorary office. PUNIHO. At the householders' meeting on Monday night the following were elected tc the Puniho School Committee: Messrs. Binnic (chairman), Wells, Gable, Cooke and Butler. RAHOTU. Messrs. A. P. Chapman, J. Looney, J. SJ-uart, E. Taylor, C. Field were elected. TTie balance-sheet showed a credit of £l4. RATAPIKO. C. J. Wiley (chairman), J. Jacobsen (secretary and treasurer), W. Bennett H. Putt and C. Therkleson were elected. HURFORD ROAD. A. E. Williams (chairman), A. Wood [(secretary and treasurer), A. Smith, M Riordan, H. Taylor, elected. KAIMATA. G. Giddy, J, H. Dobson, A. Klenipa?' (secretary), G. Mackie (chairman],, R, Tippins. TOKO. Messrs. J. T. Kilpatrick (chairman), A. J. Chainey (secretary), H. Milne, T. R Julian, N. J. Mclvot, F. A. Stevens, E. flones, elected.
