A COMPROMISE EXPECTED. HOLLAND IN tSUUB STKAITS. i'aris, April 28. It is c.vpected a eoin|iromise will be reached upon Germany's demands regarding the Rhino shipping and the exchange of food. Holland, with Germany menacing her on the one side and the Entente adopting a firm attitude on the other, is in sore straits.
PRESS VIEWS OF THE POSITION. London, April 28. The Daily Telegraph's correspondent at Rotterdam says that Germania, the official organ of the Centre Party, declares that if the war lasts long enough a point must, be reached when Holland and Switzerland will be forced completely to join one or other group of belligerents. Other German papers state that Holland is in danger of becoming a British bridgehead towards Germany, like Belgium. The correspondent adds that the Dutch people arc in the utmost anxiety owing to the German bullying attitude. The Daily Telegraph's Hague correspondent says that the Foreign Minister's announcement that the development of the sand and gravel question had not taken an unfavorable course, but that the situation was serious, is interpreted that the Government is agreeing to the German demand, but fears complications with the Entente. The public is alarmed by the German newspapers' sudden wave of threats and advocacy of military ruthlessness.
