THE GREY SEAT.
WILL PROBABLY BE LEFT WITH ELECTORS. * (From Our Special Correspondent.) Wellington, April 13. It is Ijy no means certain that the Government vil\ put up a candidate for the Grey seat when the. vacancy caused by Mr. Webb's non-attendance in the House during last session is announced. The Reform and Liberal Parties have undertaken not to fight one q.t the polls during the existence of the National Ministry, and there is nothing in their agreement requiring them to join in an effort to wring a seat from Labor. It would be rather difficult for the Ministers, as a matter of fact, to agree upon * candidate. The matter probably will be left in the hands of the local people. If the Liberals and Reformers of Grey can bring forward a candidate who has a reasonable chance of winning the seat, Ministerial sanction may he forthcoming. But the National Government will not raise a party issue in the Grey electorate.
