SECOND DIVISION VOLUNTEERS.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) Wellington, April 19. I A score or more of Second Division men have responded in Wellington to the suggestion that reservists of Classes C and 1) should volunteer for service with the 42nd Reinforcements, enterng camp in the period May 21-25. Informatiini that is reaching the recruiting authorities indicates that there lias been a rei spouse in other centres and that u substantial addition will bo made to the strength of the 42nd draft 'by this means. Second Division men Who have been attested and set down for service with liter drafts are being permittecF to come forward'to the 42nd Reinforcement, and some reservists are offering to inflke, this change. ' Tt should be understood that this opening of the door to Second Division does not imply shortage ef recruits. W'hat. it means 'is that tlis Defence Department is prepared * to take into camp next month more men than were originally provided for, and finds difficulty in advancing the -dates of balloted men who have been granted jcava for definite periods. The Director of Recruiting states that the number of men taken into camp next month depends upon the number of recruits that can bo made available. The recruiting position generally is a strong one. Very few of the Class A men have yet been taken into camp, and the 42nd Reinforcement will really be the first Second Division draft- Firnt Divison accretions are in hand at present, and there is a substantial body of fit men waiting for transfer from the CI camp. There would be no need to call for volunteers but for the promise to give Second Division men threa months' leave between medical examinations and mobilisation.
