MOTHER COUNTRY.
REPLY TO ADMIRAL CAPELLE. EXAGGERATED FIGURES EXPOSED. London, April 19The Admiralty, replying to Admiral von Capelle's statement, says: The enemy still relies on exaggerated figures of the losses.
The averago monthly loss of British ships last year, including marine rista, was 333,000 gross tons, whereas Admiral von Capelle ibaseg his argument ot an average loss from submarines alonfl of 600,000 tonß monthly. The figures for the la9t quarter will be published shortly, and will vindicate the statements as regards the continuance of the drop in rate of loss. The First Lord has already assured the House of Commons as regards the adequacy of the supply of steel to give the desired output, and presently all shipyards will be fully supplied with it.
THE MAN-POWER BILL. London, April 10. The House of Lords amended the HanPower Bill by providing that all men lie granted exemption who join the volunteesr, unless a tribunal otherwise directs. The House of Commons accepted the amendment and the Bill received the Royal assent It is understood that influential members of the Government support the feeling in the lobbies in favor of a definite promise that men over 47 will not be called until October, unless a vital national crisis occurs.
RATIONING TEA AND LARD. London, April 19. Probably tea and lard will be rationed shortly.
