WELFARE OF SOLDIERS.
WOMEN DEPUTATIONS TO PREMIER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, April 20. A large deputation of women comI plained to the Premier to-day that [much harm was done toy liquor during the days of departure and arrival of the troops. Lady Stout said the hotel tars should be closed on those days.
Mr. Massey replied that the subject had been already under consideration. It was unfortunate that treating happened on those days, but he did not believe any great number of men became addicted to drink overseas. The mutter was one for tho whole Cabinet to tensider, and he would place the subject before it.
A deputation of representatives of women waited on the Premier to-day to protest against the seheme of the New 'Zealand 'Medical Club established by Miss Ettie Rout at Feriichuroh, and against the reported distribution of packets of prophylactics among New Zealand soldiers as a precaution against contracting venereal diseases. Mr. Massey said he was in agreement with most of what had been said. It was a great pity Miss Rout had been allowed to leave New Zealand, and when he arrived in England 'he would take steps to have the seheme stopged, if possible.
