A BESOLTLESS SEAfiGH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Oamaru, Last Night. The police organised' a eeaarch of th, Kakatuu river-bed to-day for Ondov Mayh&w, -who is suspected as the~perpetrator of the Gemmell's Crossing murder. Fairly large uarties of town and country residents assembled -at the river crossing this morning, and under police direction an extended search of thi. dense scrub and gorse was made almost to Maheno, and, at the time of telegraphing, large parties are scouring towards the upper reaches of the river, but no trace of Mayhew 'has been discovered In some places it is practically impossible to penetrate the thick undergrowth. The scrub and gorse extends for about four miles east of the scene of the tragedy and about six miles westward of the river, the Kakumi tat ing its rise in very rough, inhospitable country. As far as can be ascertained, the police are without a clue. The of Mist Mary who was shot through the lung, shows a little change, but she is still holding her own, and Mrs. Bambury, who received lesser wounds, though not out of dinger, is making fair progress.
